Team Cascade Black claimed wins in both games of the 22nd annual West Sound Senior High School boys and girls all-star games at Klahowya Secondary School on March 7. The Kitsap Athletic Roundtable is proud to annually sponsor the game jerseys for the event, which awards the best of West Sound, from Port Angeles to Bremerton, a final chance to show their skills on a high school basketball court.

The girls’ game went down to the write until Team Cascade Black pulled away in the final minute for an entertaining 51-43 win. UW Football Coach Kalen DeBoer Visits KAR

UW football Coach Kalen DeBoer discuss his program on Saturday, March 12 at the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable event.

University of Washington football coach Kalen DeBoer visited Kitsap on Saturday night to meet Husky fans and update them on his plan and vision for the program he took over in January. DeBoer appeared at Kitsap Golf & Country Club at the packed Kitsap Athletic Roundtable event, which was sponsored by Sound Pest Control and Minder Meats.

All proceeds from the event go to supporting youth and amateur athletics in Kitsap. The event raised a lot of money with a large swath of Husky raffle items and two pairs of UW football sideline passes that were auctioned off for $1,500 each. The KAR appreciates the support of all of those who attended.

The members of the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable would like to thank Coach DeBoer for generously making time to come to Kitsap. He helped the KAR raise funds to help the community and spent time talking to and taking photos with excited Husky fans in attendance.

To read more about DeBoer’s presentation to the engaged audience, see the Kitsap Sun’s coverage, and enjoy the photos from the event below. Finally, the KAR is offering annual memberships for half price ($25!!) through April 15, 2022. Join us now and help support our mission.

Video Chat: US Swim Star Nathan Adrian Meets With the KAR

Bremerton native and Olympic gold medalist Nathan Adrian joined the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable on July 9, 2020 for its first virtual meeting. Adrian discussed the postponement of the Summer 2020 Games, his comeback from testicular cancer and training during a pandemic. Watch for our upcoming auction of a signed Nathan Adrian US Olympic training shirt.

Nathan Adrian, a 2006 graduate of Bremerton High School, is one of the world’s great swimming sprinters. He’s a three-time Olympian (2008, 2012 and 2016) and eight-time Olympic medalist, including earning an incredible five gold medals.

The son of Jim and Cecilia Adrian, Nathan, now 31, began swimming competitively at age 5. And he had some great competition in his family, as his siblings Donella and Justin also had stellar careers, competing at Arizona State and Washington, respectively. Justin, in fact, is a 2017 member of the Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame.

Sikma took the time to answer a lot of questions from those in attendance at the Cloverleaf Bar and Grill. What a fun night and great way to support youth and amateur athletics in the Kitsap area. Thanks to Jack for coming to Kitsap and to our event sponsors, Kevin Krieger and the local Geico Office, and Jeff Coombs of JCM Property Management.

KAR Names Male, Female Athletes of the Year

On July 15, the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable announces its 2018-19 Male & Female Athletes of the Year in a ceremony in downtown Bremerton.

The male athlete is David Anderson of Kingston High School. The Roundtable honored two female athletes: Raelee Moore of North Kitsap & Brittany Kwon of Central Kitsap. Each athlete received a certificate and a $500 scholarship. We wish them all well in their college pursuits and will follow them closely.

Brittany Kwon was unable to attend the ceremony in Bremerton and was represented by her mother Sue, who is pictured.

The 52nd annual Senior All-Star Baseball Game, sponsored by the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable, ended in a rare tie between the Nationals and Americans at the Lobe Field at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Sponsorship: KAR supplies hats to Higgins Memorial

The Kitsap Athletic Roundtable has been a longtime supporter of the annual Tim Higgins Memorial Golf Tournament, in its 53rd year in 2019. The tournament completed play Thursday (April 25) with another top=notch field of area prep golfers.

The Kitsap Athletic Roundtable supplied hats to all of the competitors as a memento of their participation in the longest running high school golf tournament in the state. It’s our pleasure to be out on the course, watching the young athletes and supporting them as they compete.

KAR Event: State Title football games could move

According to Washington Interscholastic Activities Association executive director Mike Colbrese, there’s a debate within the association over the financial sensibility of using the Tacoma Dome as the home venue for state championship football. “Our contract is up with the dome. I’m not so sure we’ll renew it,” said Colbrese, who joined new South Kitsap football coach Dan Ericson as a guest speaker at Wednesday’s Kitsap Athletic Roundtable gathering at the Cloverleaf Sports Bar and Grill in Bremerton.

KAR Event: WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese featured guest

College scandals have been around forever. The scandals at the high school level aren't so nasty, but prep sports aren't immune to rules violations. That's among the subjects that’ll be discussed at a Kitsap Athletic Roundtable meeting on March 27 at the Cloverleaf Sports Bar & Grill. Mike Colbrese, the outgoing executive director of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, will be the headline speaker.

Sponsorship: KAR provides jerseys to West Sound All-Stars

The Kitsap Athletic Roundtable provided jerseys once again to the girls and boys teams at annual Sports Beyond West Sound Senior All-Star Games. This annual game, played March 12 at Olympic College, is an entertaining way to celebrate the best senior talent in the area and provide a fun, entertaining venue for them to play in their final high school basketball event.

Read the game story from Kitsap Sun to read more about the event and see our photo gallery of the girls and boys games. Also, take notice of our logo on the upper left of each jersey. We’re proud to help make this night possible for these tremendous young athletes.

Diverse group heads into 2018 Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame

Brock Stodden's five daughters earned a round of applause with their rendition of the national anthem to kick off the 31st annual Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame banquet at Kiana Lodge. That would be far from the last time the crowd of 300 put their hands together to acknowledge female accomplishment during Saturday's ceremony. Four women — Nancy Kelstrup, Stephanie Davis Malone, Lauren Haas Peters and Marla Morey — were among those honored in the 2018 induction class.

Stark: Wrestling still 'in my blood,' former SK star Chriswell says

Brent Chriswell of South Kitsap High School turned out to be a two-time state champ, and a three-time Pac-12 champion. The former SK star will be inducted into the Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame on Jan. 26 at Kiana Lodge in Poulsbo as part of the Class of 2018.

Mosher: Hall of Famer Yelk Is a wrestling pioneer

Camie (Yeik) Devitt is deep into a post-wrestling career. She’s now a mother to Remington Marie, living in Wyoming with husband Rusty Devitt, a former star pitcher at Klahowya, and working as an registered nurse with two college degrees and working on a third. Now, instead of on the wrestling mat, where she compiled a remarkable record and made history while competing at Olympic High School, she is blazing a new path in the real word. It’s her incredible success on the wrestling mat, which includes summers competing on the national circuit in freestyle, that has led her to be voted into the Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame.

Mosher: Past KAR President Jim Carlson known for generosity

Jim Carlson, past president of the Kitsap Athletic Roundtable and former co-owner Bremerton’s Minder Meats, king of one-liners and a supporter of all the things that are good in a community, is gone. But the memories of him will live on for a long time. He died Sept. 4 at age 83. “He always helped me out with something,” said Bob Fredericks, one of the founders of the Kitsap Tennis & Athletic Center.
